www.hostingposts.com
Last week, I told you about http://www.hostingposts.com. Yesterday, hostingpost’s administrator announced,
Due to the overwhelming number of signups, I have decided to move all accounts over to Bizari Host, people who already have accounts will be allowed to keep them with the terms I have set. . . . Support will now be accepted only at the bizari site, new signups will have to go along with bizari guidelines.

Gone Today, Gone Tomorrow
Last week I mentioned http://havesite.com/ and http://www.amfr.xthost.co.uk, but they did not stick around for long. http://www.amfr.xthost.co.uk was part of the http://www.amfr.org/ network, which brings together sites that provide free hosting for a week or two before ending it all due to alleged abuse or repair.
http://havesite.com/ and http://www.amfr.xthost.co.uk were up for 2 or 3 weeks and then folded. Maybe they will be back someday, only to go down again?

Nicer Ads
I usually avoid reviewing Web hosts who upload ads onto members sites, but here’s one I like:
http://hostrim.com/ is a free hosting service that places a small ad at the top of each hosted page — just a pretty search bar with a button, and much nicer looking than Google Adsense.
You can see an example of hostrim’s ads on http://ledbetter.hostrim.com/
Hostrim provides unmetered bandwidth and instant activation.

A New Site In Town: What's the Traffic Like?
Wonax.Com
You have chosen a Web hosting plan, but you are worried about its location. What are the connections like? How's the speed? Are the connections reliable?
For a free quick look at the flow of data around the world, see Wonax's Traffic Report
Wonax.com says, Response Time in reference to Internet traffic is how long it takes for a chunk of data to travel from point A to point B and back (round trip). A typical response time on the Internet is 200 ms, which is 200 milliseconds (thousandths of a second) = 1/5th of one second.
And if you register with http://wonax.com, you'll automatically activate your free Website: 999mb and PHP.

Clickherefree.com posts Stormway
clickherefree
I won't be writing about Russia's Stormway -- http://stormway.ru/hosting/
My reviews target ad-free, no-cost, English-language hosting plans and, without prejudice or finding of fact, exclude those that require you to post in their forums. (From what I hear, Stormway is not a post-to-pay hosting service.)

Invision Power Board -> New Packages Free/Ad/Paid
Yesterday another free service -- http://www.hostingposts.com/ -- accepted my application for a free 100mb webspace account. Of course 100mb is not a huge pie -- you can only fit so many email accounts and databases in there -- but this no-cost plan does give you cpanel pro, fantastico, unlimited email accounts, unlimited subdomains, unlimited sql, cgi, php, perl, 1-3gb in bandwidth, and more.
When I registered at the www.hostingposts.com forum and applied for a free-hosting account, I let them know that I'm reviewing ad-free, no-cost Web hosts. Approximately 24 hours later (maybe more, maybe less), they gave me a password and said they hope I enjoy their service.

Free Online Image Conversion Service
Have you ever done a search for a quick, no-cost way to convert a jpg image to gif? It can be frustrating. It WAS frustrating! The guys selling software hire quick-and-dirty technical writers who then go about incorporating diversionary keywords into Website content.
But here's an efficient online solution. The ImageMagick Studio. It's free:
http://net11.imagemagick.org/.../MagickStudio.cgi
"It can read, convert and write images in a large variety of formats. Images can be cropped, colors can be changed, various effects can be applied, images can be rotated and combined, and text, lines, polygons, ellipses and Bézier curves can be added to images and stretched and rotated."
It's a real-time solution.
Or you can download the package for nothing, nada, $0.00: http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php
The service is hosted by http://www.networkeleven.com/ and http://www.pair.com/ .

Another Free Web Host
A new "invitation only" free hosting service has started up. Its members send invitations to friends (similar to the Gmail-beta membership setup). I looked into it and posted a request for an invite in the www.moved.in forum. Now I'm moved in at http://maxledbetter.moved.in -- 150mb webspace, 5gb bandwidth, cpanel, PHP, fantastico, no ads, no compulsory posts to the forum, and more.
Moved.in is most certainly the equal to the services I have listed below, in the preceding post.
I went back and told them,
Hello Level 3 [moved.in support],
Your response was almost immediate. Outside of chat and pm, yours was the speediest human response I have encountered on the Worldwide Web.
I signed up!
And thanks to the staff for telling us about ws ftp -- http://moved.in/topic_id_29.html -- I was using a couple of other ftp programs but did not quite trust them.

Comparison Shopping for Free Web Hosting
So far the best free Web hosts I have found at this time are
-- http://memebot.com ( e.g., http://maddening.memebot.com )
-- http://hostrave.com ( e.g., http://freehosting.hostrave.com/p/ledbetter/submitware/ )
-- http://auserver.net ( e.g., http://auserver.net/dvdmxll/ )
You should note that auserver’s FAQ says,
No there are no ads displayed on your web pages. However if your web site receives an extremely large data transfer (downloads/views), then a banner ad may be automatically placed at the top of your web pages.
-- http://netfreehost.com ( e.g., http://ledbetter.bizhat.com )
-- http://thefishfinder.com (e.g., http://thefishfinder.com/.../ledbetter/boat )
-- http://90megs.com ( e.g., http://research.90megs.com/ )
Last night I received my free account with http://90megs.com. They provide an ad-free 90mb plan, with a 10gb/month bandwidth. The plan features Cpanel (which is said to be the best commercial control panel) and Fantastico, which with one click installs any one of numerous PHP scripts (website templates, forms, weblogs and publishers, portals, photo galleries, etc.). The free accounts enable Perl and CGI programming and scripts, too. . . . http://research.90megs.com
The remote Tropical Pacific http://dot.tk is giving away the privilege to create and then borrow .tk domain names. They'll let you use three for free. I chose http://newsmax.tk , http://wildsalmon.tk and http://marketwatch.tk .
